Position: Associate Director, Research

Department: Advancement

Role Overview: Reporting to the Director of Advancement Operations, the Associate Director of Research works closely with the research and operations team and front-line fundraisers to create and execute strategies to identify new prospective major donors, board and institutional prospects for annual operating support.

This role will supervise and guide a small team: a Research Manager, Associate and an open entry-level role. The Associate Director, Research, as supported by the research and operations team, is responsible for delivering special projects to support high-level prospect identification, creating and implementing a robust prospect moves management system using the donor CRM Tessitura, and developing prospect solicitation strategies with the front-line fundraising teams.

The Associate Director, Research will also be responsible for providing staff training (as required), ensuring prospect templates and research methodologies employed by the team are kept up-to-date, and upholding data privacy standards across the Advancement and Innovation department.

What you'll get to do here:

  • Create and execute annual strategies to identify high net-worth prospects (Individuals, Corporations, and Foundations) via regular wealth screenings, relationship mapping, ad hoc special projects, and long-term planning
  • Conduct original research, including highly skilled asset analysis, to determine a prospect's overall wealth, capacity, and affinity to support Lincoln Center's programs
  • Collaborate with fundraising teams to create prospect cultivation and solicitation plans
  • Ensure donor prospect pools are continually populated and new prospects are assigned in a timely manner to fundraiser pipelines for the A&I front-line fundraising team and executive office, as required
  • Monitor and evaluate fundraiser portfolios to ensure appropriate allocation and engagement of prospects
  • Work with operations and IT teams to ensure Tessitura Analytics, Monday.com boards and other prospect review reports are configured accurately
  • Establish as part of a robust moves management system, parameters for portfolios, and regular prospect review meetings with fundraisers and research team to document overall prospect strategy and review portfolios, new assignments, donors in stewardship, and successes/challenges
  • Encourage and disseminate the department's data privacy standards and ensure good data integrity and record keeping practices are being upheld in Tessitura with the fundraising teams working with the operations team as needed
  • Provide due diligence for gift acceptance
  • Supervise the research team, as well as train staff members & colleagues on new research practices and resources
  • Prepare materials for internal prospect review for the Executive office and A&I leadership teams as required
  • Provide research to support A&I events e.g. Galas and major cultivation events
  • Adhere and uphold ethics and confidentiality policies
  • Undertake special research projects as requested by the Executive and Legal offices
  • Such other duties and responsibilities as are reasonably related to the duties and responsibilities listed above

You'll be a fit if you bring:

  • Minimum 8+ years' experience supporting and managing prospect research for a fundraising team. Experience working for a New York Arts organization and supporting campaigns are bonuses
  • Strong knowledge, experience and skill in prospect identification
  • Advanced analytical skills and the ability to synthesize complex data, experience in data mining a bonus
  • Strong experience in creating moves management system to support a growing team of fundraisers, and experience in creating or designing prospect review reports
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of Tessitura or another CRM
  • Experience in leading and managing team of researchers, including providing training and guidance for new staff
  • Ability to work in an agile manner, and across different fundraising teams with different needs, as well as experience working with different personalities and competing priorities.
  • Ability to work in person 3 days/week at Lincoln Center's offices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Be an advocate for Tessitura and the research and operation teams work
